Terrassa, 21 de junio de 2018. IMANcorp Foundation celebrated its first award of the Innovation to Succeed (I2S) prizes for technological innovation. Pau Jover Font and Dani Sors Rauderell, two young engineers, were the first winners for the design and development of an innovative drone to collaborate and help NGO Proactiva Open Arms (POA) rescue refugees at high sea.

As a result of the collaboration agreement signed between the Foundation and POA, IMAN launched an innovation challenge aimed at graduates and undergraduates to “Help to save more lives at high sea”. A challenge focused on developing new technologies that contribute to improve maritime rescue of refugees adrift. The awarded drone prototype, easy to use and transport, has a new and innovative capsule made with a 3D printer, which allows to load critical vessels during the flight. As well, due to its long battery life, the drone provides location and bidirectional communication between ships miles away. Besides, it is capable to land on water and to resist inclement weather thanks to the implementation of pieces designed and produced by 3D printers.

Technical characteristics

·

Long-range (>7km) high-definition control and video telecommunications and autonomy, more than basic drone models.

·

Easy to use, transport and take off from boats without specific infrastructure for this end. Compact design: fits in a standard backpack and easy to start it up (less than 5 minutes).

·

Possibility of quick loading during the flight (speed > 50 km/h) with an initial weight of 0.5kg, but with the possibility of increasing the load.

·

Easy assembly, use and maintenance (remote control, batteries replacement, repairs, transport, etc.). Battery recharge is less than 1.5 hours.

·

Robust design capable of landing on water and resistant to inclement weather.

The award ceremony count on the participation of IMANcorp Foundation board members and the prize was presented by Pere Lluís Parés, representative of the Foundation board, and Gerard Canals, Operations Manager at Open Arms.

The celebration of this technology and innovation awards exposes IMANcorp Foundation’s interest in recruiting projects that promote entrepreneurship and have future within the business world.
